Freshfields, Cleary secure Gartmore sale

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and New York-based Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton were the principal advisers on Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company’s sale of fund manager Gartmore to Oxford Acquisition III, a company formed by private equity fund Hellman & Friedman. Freshfields advised Nationwide Mutual, led by London corporate partner Rob Stirling. Cleary represented Oxford Acquisition III, led by London corporate partner Simon Jay and New York M&A partner Chris Austin. Pinsent Masons advised Hellmans on UK property, pensions and environmental aspects. Ogier provided Jersey law advice, while Allen & Overy acted for the financers, Goldman Sachs and HSBC.
