Biggart Baillie has won BBC Scotland as a new client after participating in a beauty parade against a number of local rivals.
The Scottish firm pitched against DLA, Dundas & Wilson and Shepperd + Wedderburn for a place on BBC Scotland’s three-strong legal panel. Masons, which handles some ad hoc work for BBC Scotland, failed to win a place on the panel. However, the firm is expecting to continue getting work in the future.
Burness and Maclay Murray & Spens, which have held places on the legal panel for six years, were re-appointed. However, it is understood that BBC Scot-land is scrutinising its longstanding relationship with Maclays. A well-placed source said that the Scottish firm has been given an opportunity to show that it shares the same public service/public value culture as the BBC.
The appointments are for a three-year period, although BBC Scotland head of legal Alistair Bonnington said relationships are under constant review. “External firms should be hungry for the BBC work,” he said.
