Steptoe & Johnson is branching out into the UK insurance and reinsurance market after setting up a new practice with the hire of a former Clifford Chance senior associate.
Angus Rodger, who is experienced in both contentious and non-contentious work, will be the first dedicated insurance lawyer housed in Steptoe & Johnson’s London office.
It is understood that Steptoe will concentrate predominantly on contentious cases. The firm has been focusing on developing an insurance and reinsurance capability in London for some time. Maury Shenk, Steptoe’s London managing partner said: “It was the number one area that we targeted [in the UK].”
Steptoe has had a tumultuous time in London following its merger with Rakisons in 2001, resulting in the departure of the majority of Rakisons equity partners.
