Arnold & Porter appoints pro bono chief

Washington DC-based Arnold & Porter has created a new senior partner for pro bono position. James Sandman, the firm’s former managing partner from 1995 to 2005, will work alongside pro bono committee chair Philip Horton. The firm has also established an award to honour two of the firm’s lawyers for pro bono achievement, each of whom will select a pro bono provider to receive $15,000 (£7,660) in their honour. The firm has also committed lawyers to spend 15 per cent of their time on pro bono work and decreed that every Arnold & Porter lawyer work on least one pro bono matter each year.
