What was your first-ever job?

Collecting beer glasses in my parents’ nightclub in Eire at the age of six. 

What was your worst experience as a trainee?

Leaving aside 9/11 being my first day as a trainee, I suppose it must be losing my cool as a second-seat trainee in a closing meeting and telling the client off for being an idiot.

Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?

Switch on the listening devices. Or go to Ryan Brown’s (one of the MJ Hudson team) stand-up comedy sessions. 

What time do you usually leave the office?

I try to be home by 6pm, in time to put my daughter to bed. 

What do you do at weekends?

Learn to do gardening, muck out the chickens and visit a wide variety of farm shops with my wife and daughter. 

What’s your favourite restaurant?

Sweet Olive in Aston Tirrold, Oxfordshire. 

If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?

An airline pilot. (If only eye laser treatment had existed in 1995…) 

What’s your favourite film?

Crocodile Dundee II. 

What was the first record you ever bought?

MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This.

Who’s your hero and why?

Robert Burrow, the founding partner of SJ Berwin. He was my first boss and is still my mentor. And Stephen Hendry, the best snooker player ever. 

What’s the best thing about your job?

Offering people a job and a career, and building up a business from scratch. 

What’s the toughest thing about your job?

Losing pitches to firms that are weaker than us. 

What’s your favourite children’s book?

The Gruffalo. (I can do the voices too). 

What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?

Above a cashmere and tartan shop on Piccadilly, with no air conditioning. 

If you were stranded on a desert island, which two luxury items would you take?

My wife and a snooker table. 

If a movie was being made
about your life which actor would play you?

Leonardo Di Caprio in his Gangs of New York period.
