In a highly unusual move, Mishcon de Reya has hired an adman as head of business development.

Elliot Moss joins from advertising agency Leagas Delaney, where he was managing director. Previously he managed the agency’s relationship with Mishcon and recently helped to devise the firm’s brand strategy.

According to Moss, this branding can be described as a “fusion of unusual internal values alongside a client belief that we [Mishcon] will fight for you”.

Moss said the Legal Services Act had opened doors for Mishcon, hence its decision to take a non-lawyer into the management team. “Whatever we do will be thought provoking,” Moss said.

Managing partner Kevin Gold said: “Appointing our director of business development from outside of the legal sector is a bold move, but one which we’re certain will have a positive and progressive impact on the firm as a whole.”
