Allen & Overy (A&O) is to launch two offices in Vietnam after hiring Dao Nguyen, Mayer Brown JSM’s managing partner in the country.

Move of the week

A&O has received regulatory approval and will open offices in Hanoi (pictured) and Ho Chi Minh City in the third quarter of 2012. The two new offices bring A&O’s total to 42 across 29 countries.

Steptoe & Johnson partner David Lorello has joined the London office of Covington & Burling as a partner.

Lester Aldridge has hired Christina Kwaw as an associate for the London office. She was a senior lawyer at Hodders. Ann Croke has been promoted to partner.

Former Temple Tax Chambers barrister Michael Conlon QC has joined Hogan Lovells as head of indirect tax in London.

Thomas Eggar has hired corporate partner Keir Barrie, who was a partner at Farrer & Co.


Liverpool firm EAD Solicitors has promoted Georgia Briscoe, Paul Currie, Chris MacNaughton and Sarah Williams to the partnership.

Pannone partner David Leviten has joined Heatons as a real estate partner.

Watson Burton has appointed associate Andrew Poyner. He was a construction and engineering lawyer at Geldards.

JMW has hired partner Marc Yaffe from Boote Edgar Esterkin, where he was a partner; head of debt recovery Graeme Danby from Lowell Group, where he

was litigation manager; Itohan Odekundle as a solicitor from Addleshaw Goddard, where she was a trainee solicitor; and Yvonne Li as a solicitor from Mofilm, where she was an in-house legal adviser. James Brown and Sam Hall have been promoted to the partnership.
