JPMorgan has appointed Karen Linney to the newly created role of general counsel for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Emea).
The promotion comes as the investment bank ramps up its senior legal capability outside the US following a record year in 2007.
Linney has worked for the bank since 1993, when she joined what was then Chase Manhattan from Clifford Chance. She will co-head the legal and compliance department in Emea alongside compliance chief Jim Brown.
Staff were informed last week that she would oversee the legal team in the bank’s advisory, capital-raising and risk management arms, reporting to New York co-general counsels Diane Genova and Travis Epes, as well as Emea chief operating officer Jakob Stott.
JPMorgan confirmed the appointment but declined to comment.
