Although those in the running for the managing and senior partner posts at Allen & Overy (A&O) have vowed to run a clean election fight, the firm’s other partners seem to be leaving nothing to chance in making sure that outgoing senior partner Guy Beringer will not run again.
Beringer has been spotted hobbling around the firm’s building in a pitiful state after sustaining an achilles heel injury in a nominally friendly three-a-side partnership football game in the gym.
This is the second time in a year that Beringer’s achilles heel has been the victim of a vicious attack.
Supporters of Beringer’s heel have advocated hiring round-the-clock security detachments and a PR agent to ensure its future safety and the preservation of its reputation for strong leadership on the pitch.
Tulkinghorn has to chuckle when he thinks back to the partnership disputes of his day, which were usually settled in a more gentlemanly manner.
Rather than a snide clip of the heel, Tulkinghorn prefers a duel. He still carries a discreet deringer between counsel’s bundles in his briefcase in case of such an eventuality.
