Move of the week

Bird & Bird has hired corporate partner Jörg Paura as a partner in its international corporate group. He will join the Hamburg office on 1 April, from Hogan Lovells where he was a partner in the corporate M&A practice, also in Hamburg. His focus is in the steel, automotive and media sectors. Paura takes two counsel, Daniel Weiss and Mirjam Rüve, with him.



Manches has promoted two partners: Richard Cooke in the construction team and Rebecca Carlyon in the family team.

Richard Thomas has joined the finance and transactions practice of Vedder Price as a partner in its London office. He was previously a partner in the London office of Salans.

Bird & Bird has hired partner Brett Hailey to join its London office and international aviation sector group. He joins from SNR Denton, where he was a partner.

Hodge Jones & Allen has appointed Meaby & Co’s Nicholas Buckman to its private client team. Buckman specialises in setting up personal injury trusts.

International commercial litigator Donna Goldsworthy has joined the London office of Cozen O’Connor as a member of the commercial litigation and arbitration group. She joins from Fox Williams, where she was a partner.

TLT has appointed specialist construction and projects lawyer Lawrence Bruce as a partner. He joins from Fasken Martineau.


Essex firm Birkett Long is strengthening its rural team with the promotion of solicitor Annabelle Savage to the position of associate.


Irwin Mitchell has made two hires. Banking and finance associate Hayley Johnson joins the Sheffield office from Nabarro, while Richard Life joins the Manchester office as an associate solicitor in the corporate team from Addleshaw Goddard.

Walker Morris has made three appointments to its real estate group. Jane Stark joins as an associate from Latham & Watkins in London, while Adam Reed and Thomas Jackson both recently qualified at the firm.

Watson Burton has hired solicitor Bal Manak to its specialist construction and engineering group. Manak was previously with Sintons.

Slater & Gordon (Russell Jones & Walker) has hired personal injury solicitor Peter Carson from Thompsons, where he was a partner specialising in catastrophic injury claims and asbestos compensation.


Life sciences partner Paul Llewelyn has joined Shakespeares’ commercial team in the East Midlands from the London office of Reed Smith, where he was in the product liability team. Meanwhile, Justin Mason has left Shakespeares. He was a partner in the property division and has joined Capital Law, the Cardiff and London firm, as a partner.

Browne Jacobson has added two new partners to its Birmingham office. Personal injury lawyer Aisla Roberts was a partner and operations manager at DAC Beachcroft, while regulatory lawyer Rachel Lyne joins from Staffordshire based Frisby & Co.


HBJ Gateley has expanded its corporate recovery team in Glasgow with the hire of Iain Brown from Dundas & Wilson as a senior solicitor. Brown is also

the outgoing chairman of Glasgow’s Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Ledingham Chalmers has appointed Stuart Robertson as a partner in its employment team, based at the firm’s headquarters in Aberdeen. Robertson was previously a consultant with Paull and Williamsons.


Ozan Akyurek has been made a partner in the Paris office of Jones Day as part of the commercial litigation team.

McDermott Will & Emery has promoted two associates to partners in its Paris office: Nicholas Lafont and Lionel Lesur.

Monika Kuschewsky has been recruited by Covington & Burling’s Brussels office to its data protection practice. Kuschewsky joins from Van Bael

& Bellis in Belgium, where she was a partner.

Shearman & Sterling has brought in former Linklaters managing associate Valerio Fontanesi to its finance and restructuring practice in Italy.

K&L Gates has brought in a restructuring and bankruptcy partner to its Polish office in Warsaw. Lech Giliciński moves across from Wierzbowski Eversheds.

Taylor Wessing has promoted Ben Constance to partner in its corporate group, based in the Dubai office.

Indonesian firm Soewito Suhardiman Eddymurthy Kardono has bolstered its corporate practice with the promotion of two new partners: Lasmaroha Simbolon and Fahrul Yusuf.

Walkers has added Robert Foote as a counsel and Casheen van Halder as an associate to its Singapore office. Foote moves from Ogier in the British Virgin Islands, where he was a managing associate, while van Halder was with Macfarlanes.


Bruce Wolfson has joined the New York office of Bingham McCutchen as an of counsel in the practice group. Previously he was a partner and general counsel at The Rohayn Group.

New York firm Chaffetz Lindsey has announced the promotion of Andreas Frischknecht to partner and Jennifer Gorskie to counsel. 

Jones Day has announced that Alberto de la Parra, former general counsel for mining, railroad and infrastructure company Grupo Mexico, has joined the Mexico City office as a partner in the firm’s banking and finance practice.


Conyers Dill & Pearman has added two lawyers to its Cayman Islands office, with Matthew Stocker joining as a counsel from Thorp Alberga and Richard Fear moving from the London office, also as counsel.


Catherine May has been confirmed as a lawyer in the Sterling Insurance Group’s new property and liability claims team. She was previously an insurance partner at Reed Smith.
