Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is hiring Hammonds’ respected Birmingham head of corporate, Patrick Somers, to join its London corporate team.
Somers, who resigned from Hammonds in January, wasone of the two equity partners at Hammonds not to sign up to a lock-in. He is currently concluding several transactions before making the move to the City, specialises in energy and utility deals.
He spent three years as the general counsel of energy company Lattice Group – now part of National Grid Transco – before joining Hammonds in 2002.
Somers said his move would further develop his “niche area” of energy and utilities, and that he hoped his practice would benefit from BLP’s expertise in mid-market corporate work.
He told The Lawyer: “I’m looking forward to it but it’s not without some sadness as well. It’s an exciting opportunity.”
Somers is understood to be coming in near the top of BLP’s equity structure, at some £650,000.
Meanwhile, Hammonds has appointed Peter McLintock as its new corporate head in Birmingham. McLintock joined Hammonds from Wragge & Co in June 2004.
