Wedlake Bell’s exclusive alliance has signed up replacement member firms in Germany and Scotland and has gained a Finnish member for the first time, completing its coverage across the EU.

Hamburg-based Alpers & Stenger, Finland’s Krogerus & Co and Scotland’s Drummond Miller have joined the Trans European Law Firms Alliance (Telfa).

Telfa lost its original German member Buse Heberer Fromm when it joined Field Fisher Waterhouse‘s European alliance following a series of domestic mergers (The Lawyer, 4 February 2002). Telfa’s relationship had been with the firm’s Düsseldorf office.

The alliance’s previous Scottish member was Ledingham Chalmers. However, Telfa’s secretary general Giancarlo Agace said there was no scope for the alliance to develop the firm’s principal international activity in the oil and gas sectors.

The alliance does not envisage a merger in the short-term, but Agace said its core members may decide to take the relationship further.

Telfa recently set up a cross-border corporate finance team and expects to set up similar groups in areas such as alternative energies, tax, insolvency, construction, banking, e-commerce and tourism. Outside the EU, the alliance is represented in Cyprus, Egypt, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.
