Clyde & Co loses second partner to Barlow Lyde & Gilbert

Clyde & Co is losing its second partner to Barlow Lyde & Gilbert in under a year.

Stephen Browning, formally a company and commercial partner at Clyde & Co, is leaving after 13 years at the firm. He will become a partner in the corporate and finance division at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, specialising in insurance.

He follows highly rated insurance lawyer Verner Southey, who left Clyde & Co after 13 years to join Barlow Lyde & Gilbert as a consultant in February 1999.

John Whittaker, business development partner at Clyde & Co, says: “Browning worked with the insurance group and we were not entirely surprised that he had gone to join Southey.”

He adds: “Stephen is a good lawyer and we are sorry to be losing him.”

Browning says: “Barlow Lyde & Gilbert's corporate and finance department is really going somewhere.”

But commenting on Southey's presence at the firm, he says: “I would not want to over emphasis it too much. We did work together for a long time.

“It is the opportunity here that was the point of me moving and there is nothing more to add.”
