London media boutique MLaw is branching out into film and regulatory work after hiring a pair of partners from Charles Russell.
Film specialist Peter Coles, previously a partner at Eversheds and an in-houser at Polygram, is due to join MLaw on 1 September, while commercial and regulatory lawyer Victoria Russell joined the firm in August. The arrivals mean MLaw has doubled its partner headcount from two to four.
MLaw partner Matt Higdon said the hires reflected the fact that his firm was broadening its practice to mirror the converged businesses of its clients.
“Our business is about advising on the protection and exploitation of media rights,” Higdon said. “We’ve seen our clients expand into new areas and have adapted to their requirements.”
Both Higdon and fellow MLaw founding partner Chris Hutchings previously worked with Coles at Charles Russell.
