The Lawyer’s cost per lawyer (CPL) rankings in The UK 100 Annual Report 2006 revealed that, while Yorkshire and Humberside boast among the lowest costs in the UK, revenue per lawyer (RPL) is also low. For example, Brabners Chaffe Street and Hill Dickinson report CPLs of £107,000 and £119,000 respectively, but Hill Dickinson also records an RPL of just £156,000.

Halliwells is the standout exception, generating an average RPL of £209,000 in 2005-06. However, the firm is not without its complications, having lost corporate partner Chris Moss to Pinsent Masons in September. But days later it poached DLA Piper partner Steven Fennel to launch its corporate recovery practice in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

This Yorkshire and Humberside Special Report examines this dynamic market, in particular the thriving importance to the logistics market.
