Property firm closes as five join Couderts

San Francisco intellectual property boutique Majestic Parsons Siebert & Hsue is dissolving as five of its lawyers leave to join Coudert Brothers.

Name partners Martin Majestic and Suzanne Siebert are moving to Coudert's San Francisco office along with fellow partner Keiichi Nishimura, two associates and a patent agent.

The rest of the firm is understood to be joining the San Francisco office of 100-lawyer Silicon Valley intellectual property firm Skjerven Morrill MacPherson Franklin & Friel.

The new additions bring Coudert's numbers to 31 lawyers in San Francisco, with 85 in California. The firm also has offices in San José, Palo Alto and Los Angeles.

Majestic says: “They approached us and we have been obviously watching the rapid consolidation of the legal market both domestically and internationally so we were already looking towards merger into a much larger organisation.

“My clients' businesses are increasingly becoming global – this is certainly in accordance with the mutual benefits to both firms and our clients.”

Majestic clients include Munich-based SCM Microsystems and R Griggs & Co, makers of Dr Martens footwear.

Siebert's practice focuses on intellectual property protection, litigation and licensing, especially for biochemical and pharmaceutical inventions. Nishimura specialises in electrical and software technology.
