In brief: Solicitor-advocates given more power
Legal Aid Board chief executive Steve Orchard has announced that solicitor-advocates are to be given equal status to counsel when counsel’s opinion is sought for the purposes of applying for a legal aid certificate. The LAB is also considering giving legal aid-franchised solicitors firms greater powers to alter legal aid certificates without gaining counsel’s opinion.
