Dundas & Wilson

managing partner Chris Campbell has quit the Scottish firm to join the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

As first revealed on www.thelawyer.com (26 May), Campbell, who has led Dundas since 1996, will be joining RBS as director of group legal services and deputy general counsel on 1 August.

He takes over from Mark Chidley, who left the clearing bank in February without securing a new position, as first reported by The Lawyer (14 February). He has since joined DLA Piper‘s Leeds office as a partner. Chidley joined RBS in 2002 following an 18-year stint at Addleshaw Booth & Co (now Addleshaw Goddard).

Dundas chairman Neil Cochran, who is due to retire in June, will assume the role of chief executive until next May, when the firm hopes to appoint a new managing partner. Michael McAuley has been appointed as chairman.

Commenting on his move, Campbell said: “It was an opportunity to join one of the UK’s great companies and one that I couldn’t turn down.”

Cochran said: “This is a great opportunity for Chris, who’s spent 13 years with the firm. And while we’ll be sad to see him go, we’re confident that Dundas will build on its success over the last decade.”

In his new role, Campbell will report to RBS’s Edinburgh-based general counsel Miller McLean. Campbell will leave Dundas in July.
