Dewey & LeBoeuf is preparing to launch a Madrid office, with a London partner spearheading the initiative.

Berge Setrakian, who currently divides his time between London and New York, was in the Spanish city along with New York and Paris partner Margaret Civetta to finalise the plan.
Dewey is expecting to relocate one partner to the new office when the plans go through later this year.

Setrakian’s practice focuses on international corporate and commercial work, while Civetta is a corporate lawyer.

The move follows a number of office closures in the US. Last year The Lawyer reported that the firm closed its Austin, Charlotte, Hartford and Jacksonville offices.

The firm is committed to expanding its international presence and, after launching in Dubai early last year, opened offices in Abu Dhabi and Qatar earlier this year.

Dewey declined to comment.
