In brief: Home Secretary urges youth court speed-up
At a Home Office seminar last week, Home Secretary Jack Straw called on the 20 busiest youth court areas, including inner London, Nottingham and Cardiff, to head the Government’s youth justice overhaul by halving the time between arrest and sentence (currently five months) and by fast-tracking persistent young offenders.
