Baker & McKenzie has given modest pay rises to associates at most levels at the same time as promoting six to its partnership.
As of 1 July newly qualified (NQ) lawyers will pocket £64,000, a rise of 0.8 per cent on last year’s figure of £63,500. The pay level for those with one year’s post qualification experience (PQE) has remained unchanged at £68,000 while the two and three years’ PQE pay bands have each risen by £2,000 – to £77,000 and £87,000 respectively. For trainees solicitors, salaries have risen from £36,500 to £37,500.
A spokesperson for the firm said: “We have repositioned our trainee and associate salaries competitively with other top law firms.”
The modest rises reflect those seen across much of the City this year. As reported on TheLawyer.com yesterday, Macfarlanes has awarded first year PQEs a £1,000 pay rise – up to £65,000 and £71,000 respectively. Two and three year PQEs have seen an uplift of £5,000 and £3,000 respectively.
In terms of partner promotions, the firm has made up three in its corporate practice and one apiece in competition, employment and banking. This brings the total number of partners in London to 84.
