A Kings Langley woman who gave birth after being sterilised is suing West Hertfordshire Health Authority for damages. Susan Allsop claims she was sterilised on 30 April 1993 but gave "wrongful" birth to a daughter on 20 January 1995. Her writ claims the birth was caused by the health authority's negligence over her sterilisation, which took place at St Albans City Hospital, and seeks damages as a result.

Erling Holst, former managing director of Eltec International, is suing the company for damages for alleged constructive dismissal. Holst, of London NW3, claims his powers were usurped after the Milton Keynes company granted full power of attorney to Axel Berghoff on 27 August 1996. Writ issued by Pettman Smith, London SW1.

American Express is suing its security services providers, Procord, of Waterlooville, Hampshire, following the theft of £200,000-worth of travellers cheques by an employee. Its writ claims it was an express term of the five-year contract with Procord that only competent staff would be engaged, and competent meant suitably qualified staff who had received adequate training and instruction and were sufficiently experienced. The writ says that in September 1995 American Express discovered sterling travellers cheques had been stolen from the mail order unit in Brighton and that its investigations revealed the thief was a Procord employee.

Lloyds Bank is being taken to the High Court to answer accusations of over-charging. It is being sued by David and Stephanie Miles for alleged breach of contract. The Miles's had four bank accounts at the bank's branch at Kent Elms Corner, Westcliff-on-Sea and seek damages for alleged over-charging in respect of interest on those accounts.

A Canterbury woman who claims she suffered injuries caused by her chiropractor is now suing him. Tracey Milliner is seeking damages from VA Brierley, also of Canterbury. Her writ claims she suffered injury as a result of his conduct of adjustments to her spine, arms and neck at his clinic in 1993.
