This first-ever smart card deal for a local authority saw Nabarro Nathanson act for new client Bracknell Forest Borough Council in its £3.3m deal with BT Ignite Solutions. The council is taking advantage of its location in the M4 Corridor to press ahead with this high-tech innovation. As a result of the joint enterprise, Bracknell Forest residents will be able to use just one card to access a number of local services, including borrowing library books, car parking and low-value transactions. Although single-application smart card technology is not a new concept, the link-up between Bracknell Forest and BT could serve as a model for similar initiatives in other local authorities. Nabarro Nathanson is chalking the deal up as one for its burgeoning e-Government service, which incorporates the firm’s public sector, projects, and technology, media and telecoms practice areas.
