Arthur Cox takes on Dublin legend

Arthur Cox has hired one of the highest-profile corporate lawyers in Dublin as a partner in its corporate group.

Until last week, Tom Courtney was an in-house lawyer with the Bank of Ireland Group. However, he is particularly well known as the chairman of Ireland’s statutory Company Law Review Group, which is the body charged with the overhaul of Ireland’s Companies Act.

Courtney has been in-house for 11 years with two divisions of Bank of Ireland. He said his main motivation for moving back into private practice was his increasing involvement in company law and the consequent “disconnect” between that interest and banking work.

He begins work at Arthur Cox today (30 January).
