Simmons & Simmons has hired DLA Piper’s head of investment funds in the UK as a partner inits financial services team. David Williams, who joined DLA Piper in 2007, focuses on investment funds and asset management work.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Williams was an associate at Maples and Calder and before that an associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.



Thomas Eggar has announced the appointment of a new partner, Sarah Birkbeck, to lead litigation for IP in two of the firm’s key sectors. She was previously a longstanding partner at DMH Stallard.

Keystone Law has recruited senior lawyer Mark Shulman to its employment team. He was previously a partner and head of employment at Cumberland Ellis.

Jones Day has grown its banking and finance practice, with Dominic O’Brien joining the partnership.

He joins the London office having worked at Clifford Chance, Herbert Smith and Addleshaw Goddard.

Scott Campbell has joined Stewarts Law’s antitrust litigation department from Hausfeld & Co, where he specialised in competition litigation.

Stephenson Harwood has boosted its IP practice with a partner Alexandra Pygall. She

joins from Covington & Burling, where she was a senior associate.

TLT is promoting five of its associates to partner and making a series of senior hires. Commercial lawyer Alison Deighton, commercial litigator Ed Fiddick, restructuring and insolvency lawyer Andrew Lockerbie, banking and finance head Gary Roscoe and affordable housing specialist Kate Silverman have all been promoted. Three senior hires in its London office are Nathan Williams from Trowers & Hamlins, Dominic Gilmore from SNR Denton and Andrew Shaw from Maclay

Murray & Spens.

Debevoise & Plimpton has named Timothy McIver as international counsel. He comes from Eversheds, where he was a senior associate.


Leading lawyer Bruce Potter has been appointed chairman of Morgan Cole. He has experience of major UK health projects.

South West

Foot Anstey has recruited a senior lawyer to its new Bristol office. Construction specialist Fran Button joins as a partner, having previously been a partner at Pinsent Masons in Leeds.


The Birmingham office of personal injury specialist Russell Jones & Walker (RJW) has added industrial disease expertise to its ranks with the hire of Peter Lodge. He left BPE after it transferred all of its personal injury clients to RJW.

Andrew & Co has announced three new fee-earners to strengthen its residential and commercial property divisions. Julia Lock has joined as an associate from Goole firm Heptonstalls. The other newcomers are conveyancing paralegal Heather Bolden from online eco-parenting business Screaming Green and residential conveyancing team leader Joanne Sworder from Taylor Rose.



The Manchester office of Weightmans has secured leading insurance lawyer Stewart Harper to act as a consultant after he retired from the partnership at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert in Manchester.

Leeds and Sheffield-based commercial law firm Lupton Fawcett has promoted Rachel Roebuck to the position of director.



HBJ Gateley has hired family law expert Philippa Cunniff for its private client team from Turcan Connell, where she was a partner.


Hélène Lefebvre has strengthened the finance practice of Field Fisher Waterhouse, joining as a partner in the Paris office. She was previously a partner in the structured finance team at Gide Loyrette Nouel.

Hogan Lovells has increased its private equity practice with the hire of Lars Benger in Düsseldorf. Benger was counsel in the private equity team of Clifford Chance in Frankfurt.


Stewart Aaron has been named head of the New York office at Arnold & Porter. He has served as administrative partner in the office for the past five years.


HWL Ebsworth is expanding its Sydney banking and finance practice with the appointment of Gamini Colless as a partner. Gamini joins from Colin Biggers & Paisley, where he was a partner.

Robert Caldwell has joined DLA Piper as a partner in its Hong Kong and Greater China finance and projects practice. He moves from King & Wood Hong Kong (formerly Arculli Fong & Ng), where he was a partner.

Ince & Co has bolstered its Asia financial lines insurance practice. Senior lawyer Aruno Rajaratnam will be group leader for Asia, based in Singapore. She moves from insurance broker Willis.

Wragge & Co has boosted its international projects practice with the hire of former Norton Rose partner Jonathan Brufal.

James Watson, former joint head of energy and infrastructure for Herbert Smith in Japan, has joined Vinson & Elkins. He has joined as a partner.

Public law barrister Brendan McGurk has joined Monckton Chambers from 4 New Square.

Melissa Pack has joined Temple Garden Chambers as part of the international law team. She previously worked for Aegis Trust as senior counsel on its International Justice Programme.
