Halliwell Landau has acted for Manchester-based Expansys since it was founded in July 1998 and is its main legal adviser. The technology company’s acquisition of internet retailer 21store.com for around £250,000 is characteristic of the consolidation underway in the sector. Expansys already had a competing retail operation and is keen to add the recognised brand of one of the early movers in internet retailing.
21store.com is based in London but Expansys has also gained its US subsidiary.
Senior assistant James Sheridan, who advised Expansys on the acquisition, has focused heavily on technology-driven work since joining Halliwell Landau seven months ago.
Sheridan became hooked on the sector during a year’s stint with Baker & McKenzie in Sydney. The experience included advising Spike Networks when it floated on the Australian Stock Exchange. It was the first initial public offering in the world to allow shares to be applied for and paid for online.
