English Heritage’s former legal chief, who joined Howard Kennedy 13 months ago, is set to join Norton Rose as a senior associate.
Nigel Hewitson, who moved to Howard Kennedy to launch a dedicated planning department last July, will head a new London planning practice at Norton Rose.
Hewitson’s hire was seen as a major coup for Howard Kennedy at the time, as several City firms had made him offers (The Lawyer, 31 July 2006).
Hewitson, who entered the partnership at Howard Kennedy, spent more than five years as legal director at English Heritage, prior to which he worked in local government.
The former English Heritage chief will be heading Norton Rose’s new planning practice, which will come under the umbrella of environment and planning. The overall practice area is headed by partner Caroline May.
