Jones Day and Paul Hastings hike US associate salaries

Jones Day and Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker have kicked off the second round of US associate salary reviews this year by hiking their pay levels.

Jones Day will raise starting pay to $150,000 (£74,445), while Paul Hastings is set to hike its starting salary to £145,000 (£71,964). The new salary rates will be effective as of 1 January 2008.

For both firms the new figures represent rises of $15,000 (£7,444).

Earlier this year (25 January) The Lawyer reported that 10 US firms raised associate pay levels, keeping up to speed with Simpson Thatcher & Bartlet’s $160,000 (£79,408) salary. Simpson Thatcher was the first US firm to announce an increase this year.

Dewey Ballantine, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson, Shearman & Sterling, Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom and Willkie Farr & Gallagher followed in Simpson Thatcher’s footsteps and raised their base associate salaries to $160,000.
