DLA Piper network wins African ally

DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary is preparing to storm Africa after the DLA Piper Group alliance signed up Egyptian law firm Matouk & Bassiouny.

Matouk & Bassiouny remains independent, but DLA Piper will use the alliance as a first step into African project finance. The Cairo-based firm advises on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters across several practice areas and sectors.

The DLA Piper Group alliance has been on hold recently as the firm has grown with the acquisi- tion of several new offices, including teams from Coudert Brothers in Ger-many, Belgium and China and a 100-lawyer EY Law CIS team.

Matouk is headed by managing partner John Matouk and founding partner Omar Bassiouny, in addition to 15 other fee-earners.

Matouk said: “In Egypt there is a demand from businesses for a coordinated approach to multijurisdictional legal advice.”
