EX-Davies Arnold Cooper (DAC) partner Gary Marshall and an existing DAC solicitor are joining insurance and commercial firm Vizards Staples & Bannister.
Marshall, who was responsible for setting up DAC's Hong Kong office in 1992, is due to join Vizards in August and will be joined by DAC solicitor Stephen Byass in September.
Since leaving DAC after the Hong Kong office closed in 1995, Marshall has set up as a sole practitioner specialising in insurance law with several Asian clients.
He also runs product liability cases for UK companies in Japan and advises on marine law in Taiwan.
Marshall says he is joining Vizards because he is finding it “very difficult to expand” his business without the back-up of a firm. The move follows that of two-partner specialist intellectual property firm Maycock's which joined City firm Withers in August (The Lawyer 21 June 1999). Partner John Maycock said: “I require greater resources and more back-up. We came to the conclusion that it makes sense to seek a larger home.”
Vizards partner David Rogers, who left DAC to be a founding partner at Vizards in May, refuses to confirm whether the firm is recruiting any more DAC partners.
However, he admits his firm is considering CVs from DAC partners and solicitors.
DAC lost its six-strong London-based intellectual property team to niche firm Henry Hepworth last month.
