Baker & McKenzie has opened an Austrian office, following a merger with 21-lawyer firm Kerres & Diwok

As revealed on www. thelawyer.com/lawyernews (27 February), the Austrian firm's founding partners Dr Christoph Kerres and Georg Diwok have joined Baker & McKenzie's international partnership. The office will also have two local partners.

Baker & McKenzie executive chairman Christine Lagarde said it would develop the firm's Central and Eastern European practice. “Vienna, capital of a thriving economy and a gateway to other Central European countries, is a natural step,” she said.

Christoph Kerres will become managing partner of the new office, which will be Baker & McKenzie's 66th worldwide. On 13 February the firm also opened an office in Shanghai.
