Norton Rose’s Islamic finance practice has built a name for itself as the market leader in this niche, but expanding, area. The team is headed by Neil Miller from London and encompasses lawyers from related practice areas based in London, Bahrain, Dubai and Singapore.
Miller was the managing partner of the Bahrain office from 1997-2000, where he picked up many of the skills now being applied to Islamic finance. The practice area requires innovation – lawyers must invent new structures and products for clients that are successful in a modern corporate world yet which also adhere to the strict Sharia laws of Islam.
With a host of big-name clients, including the Islamic Bank of Britain, Miller has been setting up the first Western Islamic savings account. He has been assisted by The Lawyer Awards 2004 Associate of the Year Mohammed Paracha, whose relocation from London to Bahrain in December marks the next stage in the growth of this strong team.
