Since returning from Asia, Geraint Hughes has fostered his relationship with Shell and in 2004 it paid dividends. Big time.
While Shell has dominated his year, Hughes has also advised Qatar Petroleum on the upstream aspects of the GGII liquefied natural gas sale to the UK and Europe, as well as Globeleq on the acquisition of power assets in Bangladesh at the end of 2003.
The two big deals for Shell have come in Iberia. Clifford Chance advised Shell on the sale of its downstream assets in Spain and advised Shell Gas on the sale of its liquefied petroleum gas business in Portugal to Repsol.
The finest accolade that can be paid to Hughes, other than a place in the Hot 100, is that Clifford Chance won a place on the oil giant’s prestigious international panel thanks almost entirely to his efforts.
