Katherine Ashdown is leaving Bank of America on a high after spending 18 months there as assistant general counsel.
An ex-securities lawyer from Morrison & Foerster, her first in-house job was at USL Capital, part of Ford Financial Services. In 1996 she joined Bank of America in San Francisco as a banker before moving across to the legal function. That transactional experience has stood her in good stead in her 18 months in London.
Dual-qualified Ashdown has been responsible for the legal function for the corporate investment banking group, which itself comprises six industry units: natural resources, media, telecoms, healthcare, general industrials and real estate/gaming. Her strong transactional background, along with her regulatory bent, made her the natural person within the legal function to help oversee the modernisation of the bank’s corporate regulatory and compliance system. As Bank of America continues its push into City investment banking, a sound regulatory and compliance structure will be invaluable.
