TEN King’s Bench Walk head of chambers Jan Paulusz has left the set, which has also lost its senior clerk and two barristers.
Paulusz, a recorder and long-standing member of the common law set, has joined nearby 8 King’s Bench Walk. His former chambers has reconstituted itself and voted in a new head, Claudius Algar.
Paulusz was unavailable for comment on the reasons for his departure – but the chambers is understood to have been beset with internal disputes, with many of the younger barristers complaining that a more dynamic set was needed.
Paulusz, who was called to the Bar in 1957, was head of chambers for about three years.
The other personnel to leave the chambers over the summer are senior clerk Paul Harding, who is yet to find a full-time job, and barristers Elizabeth Goodchild and Mark Eldridge.
Neither Goodchild, who has joined Watford Chambers, nor Eldridge, who has moved to 114 Liverpool Road chambers in Islington, were available for comment.
Harding has been replaced as senior clerk by Lee Kyprian who was previously at Roger Titheridge QC’s 1 Paper Buildings chambers.
“It was a situation where the old regime did not have the confidence of the new,” said Kyprian of the changes.
