The House of Lords is to consider an appeal by International Trader's Ferry (ITF). ITF accused Sussex police of failing in their duty by seeking to prevent livestock lorry convoys reaching the port in the face of demonstrations. The Divisional Court upheld its challenge on 26 July 1995, but that decision was reversed by the Court of Appeal this January. ITF says once the ban on livestock traffic is lifted it wants to continue shipping live animals and therefore seeks a definitive ruling on the role of police in such matters.
