Barclays Capital is again scouring the legal market for new recruits as it takes on Linklaters banking partner Sushma Jobanputra for its structured capital markets group.

Jobanputra joined Link-laters in 2000, from Canadian firm Osler Hoskin & Harcourt, as a managing associate before being made up as a partner just last year.

Jobanputra will not be joining the legal department but will be working in the structured capital markets group under the direction of Roger Jenkins and Iain Abrahams, the latter a former senior associate at Slaughter and May, which he joined from Ernst & Young.

From Slaughters Abra-hams moved to BZW, the former investment arm of Barclays Bank. He was part of the structured finance group that the bank rebranded as Barclays Capital after Credit Suisse First Boston bought out the majority of BZW.

Although Jobanputra is the 24th partner to leave Linklaters since the past financial year, the fact that she is going to the longstanding client will provide some succour for the firm.

Two years ago Barclays Capital recruited from Clifford Chance, one of its other main law firms, when it took on partner Andrew Taylor as its UK head of legal.

However, Taylor departed after just a year in the post and was eventually replaced by Jonathan Hughes.

Former Clifford Chance securitisation head Robert Palache also ended up at Barclays Capital after a sojourn at Japanese investment bank Nomura Inter-national as co-head of securitisation.

A representative from Barclays Capital confirmed that Jobanputra would be joining the bank.
