In what is likely to be the only event any football team wearing a Welsh strip will win this year, 1 Crown Office Row took the inaugural Bar 5-a-side Charity Football Tournament last week.

The professional negligence set beat 10 King's Bench Walk 2-1 in what could only be described as a robust encounter.

1 Crown Office Row captain Richard Booth explained that, when he was sent out to buy his team's colours, the cheapest he could find were Leeds away shirts, the QPR strip or Welsh soccer jerseys. Booth's heritage dictated he pick a Welsh strip.

"We entered more in hope than expectation," said Booth after his team's bruising win.

Organised by the recently formed Bar Sports Law Group, the tournament brought together more than 100 barristers, clerks and the occasional ringer.

"The whole thing was taken to be very much a friendly but as with anything, they were competitive, very competitive in fact." said BSLG administrator Nick Ozga.

Players included a healthy smattering of QC's, among them Kuldip Singh, Robert Griffiths and Christopher Pymont, as well as a handful of female barristers.
