Simmons & Simmons’ respected energy partner Andrew Bonser has died unexpectedly aged 45.

Bonser only arrived at the firm from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer four months ago along with colleague Patrick Wallace, also a partner.

During his 21-year spell at the magic circle firm Bonser led the South East Asia project finance team.

Simmons managing partner Mark Dawkins said: “Andrew quickly became a much-valued and well-loved colleague at the firm.”

Freshfields also paid tribute to its partner of 12 years.

A statement read: “He was a very clever and able lawyer who played a key role in the development of our finance practice.

Andrew was a valued colleague known for his good cheer and kindness.

He was always available to help others with difficult issues and did so with great patience and skill.”

Bonser leaves a wife and three children.
