Ashurst” />What was your first-ever job?
Helping in my father’s butcher’s shop for a summer. He said I would be a fully trained butcher within a month. By the end of the summer he was thankful that I wanted to be a lawyer.

What time do you usually leave the office?
Between 7 and 8pm.

What do you do at weekends?
Play football with my two-year-old son.

La Trompette in Chiswick.

Who’s your hero and why?
Mickey Thomas, for scoring the goal for Wrexham that knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

What’s the best thing about your job?
Structuring and negotiating transactions alongside and opposite incredible people.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?
The unpredictable hours.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake?
I was scheduled to miss completion on a transaction because I was getting married. A Wall Street partner asked me where we were honeymooning, indicating that we might find a bottle of champagne waiting for us. My mistake was telling him. On our first day, there was no champagne, but there were details of a conference call waiting for me. I did not participate. What car do you drive?Audi A4 estate.

What book are you currently reading?
London in the Nineteenth Century by Jerry White.

What’s on your iPod at the moment?
Oasis, The Jam.

What’s your favourite children’s book?
The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what two luxury items would you take?
Does a wine cellar count as one item? The second would be a corkscrew.

What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?
Paris in 2005, after discovering, at 2am, that there are two Intercontinental Hotels in Paris.

What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?
I worked all through a Thursday night and until we signed the deal at 6pm on the Friday. I then went straight out on a first date with the girl who is now my wife.

If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you and why?
Daniel Craig, because he also grew up near Chester, although that is unfortunately where our similarities end.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?
The Wall Street partner who still owes me a bottle of champagne from my honeymoon.
