Julie Holgate of Staines, Middlesex, has issued a High Court writ accusing doctors DM Bridger, M Salahuddin, Lillian Johnston and Swinglehurst, all of Staines, of negligence between 1983 and March 1995. Writ does not specify the incident giving rise to the claim.

Two women are set for a High Court battle over ownership of a greyhound. Lorraine Howard of London SW19 has issued a writ against Dolores Gaskin of Essex seeking an order holding Gaskin to a deal she claims she agreed to last year for the sale of the dog. The writ says that Howard agreed to pay £18,000 for the animal, but that Gaskin has not kept her part of the deal. Now she wants either a court order that the deal should be honoured, or damages.

Resort Hotels is being sued by Aylesbury House Resort Hotel and Hatton Court Hotel over two £750,000 debentures. It has issued a High Court writ seeking declarations that the two debentures are void and that they have incurred no liability to Resort Hotels under the terms of loan facilities.

The owners, masters and crew of the tugs Fighter, Wandelaar and Terneuzen have issued a writ seeking payment for salvage work on 31 May in respect of the Mauritius-registered vessel Salango. Their writ claims remuneration in respect of salvage services rendered to Salango and any other property salvaged in the incident which took place off the port of Flushing, Holland.

MFI is being sued over a fire which was started by vandals lighting rubbish near an MFI showroom in Gloucester in May 1996. The writ, issued by Carpetright against MFI Properties, MFI Furniture Group and MFI Furniture Centres, all of Colindale, London, claims that Carpetright's premises was extensively damaged in the fire and accuses MFI, among other things, of failing to provide sufficient security to deter vandalism and failing to take sufficient precautions following 39 fires which were started near their property over the two years prior to the blaze.
