INTERNATIONAL law firm Richards Butler has appointed Georgina Keane of the employment unit at Titmuss Sainer Dechert to its own employment department.

Keane's new role as head of the department, which has been created especially for her, will start on 1 May. She will be responsible for overseeing the work of the department working alongside senior partner Tim Archer and employment partner Laurence Rees.

Keane will be leaving Titmuss' employment practice in the hands of Charles Wynn-Evans, who became second-in-command of the department two years ago when he was just 18 months qualified.

Keane said: “My appointment at Richards Butler is an opportunity to give employment a much higher profile. There are many challenges ahead for employment lawyers, not least if there is a change of government and the adoption of a social chapter.”

She worked as a barrister until 1984, practising in various aspects of common law including matrimonial, criminal, PI and employment. Before joining Titmuss she worked at the CBI as an employment law adviser in the Employment Affairs Directorate.
