A NEW London law firm has grown from two partners to six in its first 10 months of operation.

Lloyd & Associates also expects a turnover of more than £1 million within its first 18 months.

The South Kensington practice was established in May last year by John Lloyd and Meena Heath, both of Lloyd Mills, and now has a team of 10 specialist lawyers.

Lloyd ran his own general practice in Covent Garden for 14 years before merging to form Lloyd Mills in 1990. He left with his clients, Heath and a small group of staff.

Heath spent four and a half years as an assistant solicitor with Slaughter and May and a year with City firm Alsop Wilkinson before joining Lloyd as an equity partner.

Lloyd said the new firm's success was “beyond all expectations”, but conceded that it did not have a standing start.

“All the incoming partners have brought their personal followings,” he said.

The lawyers have also bought a broad range of specialised experience, covering immigration and nationality law, company law and property litigation.

Woking-based specialist commercial property firm WK Davis lost partner Sloan Kelly to the new venture. She became a Lloyds partner within three months of joining in September last year.

Slaughter and May lost a senior assistant in commercial property development, Alex Morton, who became a Lloyd partner in January. From the same firm's company department came assistant solicitor Jane Lodge.

Chan D'Souza was recruited from Alsop Wilkinson, where she was in charge of property litigation.

The new partners are joined by immigration specialist Lanis Levy who is not a lawyer. She has worked for the UK Immigrants' Advisory Service and the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants.

Former Home Office Minister Sir Peter Lloyd, John Lloyd's brother, is a consultant to the firm.
