Watson Farley & Williams has hired Clifford Chance counsel Nikolaus Krienke as a partner and head of its ­German employment practice, based in Munich and Hamburg.

Krienke led the magic circle firm’s Munich employment practice. ­Krienke’s practice includes advising on trade union issues as well as on employment ­contracts for board members and ­managing directors. ­Watson Farley Munich chief Simon Preisenberger said: “[Krienke’s] ­prominent employment and labour law reputation in Germany and ­entrepreneurial drive leave us well-­positioned in providing ­employment law advice at the highest level.”



Field Fisher Waterhouse has boosted its equity capital markets practice with the hire of Berwin Leighton Paisner senior associate Amerjit Kalirai as a corporate partner.

Mid-size commercial firm Jeffrey Green ­Russell has promoted Kamran Rehman to ­partner in its banking and finance litigation ­practice. Rehman is a member of the Professional ­Negligence Lawyers Association.

Sackers has promoted pensions lawyer Claire van Rees to associate. Van Rees joined the firm last year from Hogan Lovells.

Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has hired dispute resolution and antitrust senior associate Patrick Doris from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer as a partner in a boost to its London ­litigation group.

Private client specialist Wilsons has brought in Burges Salmon associate Ben Sharples as a ­partner in its agricultural team.

Covington & Burling has named London-based arbitration partner Gaëtan Verhoosel as the third co-chair of its international arbitration group, alongside Thomas Johnson and Allan Moore. Verhoosel joined the firm in 2009 from Debevoise & Plimpton.


Manchester firm SNG has appointed former Pinsent Masons associate Germaine Peters as an associate in its property division.

Chester and Manchester firm Aaron & ­Partners has hired licensing law specialist Barry Holland, who was previously working as a sole trader.


Barlow Robbins has recruited Philip ­Stephenson as head of company commercial. Stephenson joins the firm from Coffin Mew, where he was a partner, and will be based in the Barlow Robbins’ head office in Guildford.

National firm Mills & Reeve has hired ­Eversheds Cambridge senior partner Ian Mather as a partner in its employment team, taking its firmwide partner headcount to 94.


Shepherd & Wedderburn Aberdeen head Richard Cockburn has joined Scottish rival Maclay Murray & Spens as a partner in its ­energy team.


Pieter Jan Kuijper, the former director of the Legal Affairs ­Division of the World Trade ­Organisation, who is also the former director of the external ­relations and international trade team of the Legal Service of the European ­Commission, has joined the Brussels office of Gide Loyrette Nouel as of counsel and ­a ­member of the team in charge of ­international trade and unfair ­competition issues.

Chadbourne & Parke has hired CMS Cameron McKenna TMT partner Krasuski as an ­international partner based in its Warsaw office. A partner at his former firm, Krasuski will lead the office’s communications, media and ­technology practice.


Covington & Burling has boosted its ­Washington DC practice with the capture of a four-lawyer team from defunct firm Howrey.

The group of antitrust and white-collar crime practitioners features Howrey’s former white-­collar defence co-head John Nields and antitrust co-head Alan Wiseman. Of counsel Andrew ­Lazerow and Jason Raofield have also joined the firm.

Nixon Peabody has boosted its West Coast offering with the hire of Goodwin Procter ­partner Tuan Pham as a partner in its affordable housing and public finance practices.


Gide Loyrette Nouel Beijing chief Yan Lan has joined investment bank Lazard after 14 years as a partner at the firm. Lan will lead the bank’s Chinese business.


Jersey firm Pinel O’Shea has appointed David Yetman as a trainee in its corporate, funds and trust group. The firm has also taken new office space at its St Helier base.
