Leading Manchester firm Pannone & Partners has bolstered its family department by luring top family practitioner Liz Cowell from Wacks Caller, also in the city.
Pannones now boasts three of Manchester's top family lawyers and ranks as one of the largest family units in the country dealing exclusively in private family law.
Department head Catherine Jones claims that Cowell's arrival is just the beginning of substantial growth for the department. As well as bringing her clients with her from Wacks, Cowell also persuaded ex-assistant solicitor Louise Chadwick, who had moved from Unsworths in Leigh, to join her at Pannones. Another assistant solicitor, Fiona Wood, is also joining from Jones Myers Gordon in Leeds.
“My next plan is to find space. We are going to have to move to another building,” says Jones.
Cowell says she had been approached by firms in Stockport and Manchester and was struggling to choose when she met Jones and fellow partner Beth Wilkins at a conference. They asked her to join them.
“I've know them both for a long time and I felt I would fit in,” says Cowell.
At Wacks, which is predominantly a commercial firm, she says she felt “they weren't interested in developing the department”.
