They might not look it here, but these boys are dangerous. Weil Gotshal & Manges emerged victorious from the fifth annual The Lawyer.com’s Legalfives football competition. The US firm’s football representatives were less than popular winners, however. Albeit a talented team, their bruising style was greeted with a chorus of boos as they bullied their way to victory – their captain was sent off in both the semifinal and the final. Unfortunately, the one-man advantage was not enough for chambers 3 Serjeant’s Inn to claw their way back into contention and Weil Gotshal ran away 3-1 winners.
In the plate competition finals Olswang was thrashed by minnows Beale & Co by an embarrassing margin of eight goals to one.
Unfortunately, both of The Lawyer’s teams were unceremoniously dumped out of the competition on penalties at the quarterfinal stage, with deputy editor Matheu Swallow missing the decisive penalty for the second year in succession. Swallow later claimed it was “to preserve the integrity of the event” that he had to make sure The Lawyer didn’t win its own competition.
In the ladies competition, Shoosmiths defeated last year’s champions Clifford Chance on penalties. 4. How many working distilleries are there in Scotland?
