In the court, however, he transforms into the Rottweiler advocate who can tear into an argument with force.

Clients say he has the ability to pinpoint the key issues of a case and make them stand out to help win a courtroom battle.

Lord found himself at the centre of a media circus in October when he won the right to call Barclays to the High Court to answer allegations of Libor rate-fixing claims. “It was very exciting at the case management conference,” he recalls, “It was standing room only.”

The dispute will proceed to a full hearing later this year when Lord will be tasked with cross examining senior Barclays management. Lord could end up being a house hold name if the case reveals some of the names behind the mis-selling scandal.

He says his practice is basking in the post-2008 boom with several credit crunch style disputes starting to filter through. “The recession was so severe in 2008, ‘09 and ‘10, so many people didn’t know how they were going to pay their bills,” he says, “no one had the appetite for litigation, the sums were just too big.”

That is all starting to change now and Lord is pursuing not one but two cases against Barclays in 2013. The latter is for CF Partners, which arises out of a corporate finance deal involving carbon credits trading. With his diary for 2014 already starting to fill up Lord is an advocate in demand.
