What was your first ever job?
Beer making at Ushers Brewery in Trowbridge.
What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Attending too many fast food outlets in order to gather evidence for a passing off action.
Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?
It’s being refurbished at the moment, but having lunch in our café is a great way of keeping in touch with everyone.
What time do you usually leave the office?
It varies, but generally by 6.30pm.
What do you do at weekends?
Depending on the weather, windsurfing at the coast or playing golf at the wonderful Bath Golf Club.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
Hurricane Hotel Beach Bar at Tarifa in Spain. You can leave Bristol Airport at 6.30am and be there for lunch.
If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?
Outdoor pursuits instructor would have been good.

My great friend and partnership law expert Stephen Ralph.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Seeing everyone around me develop and succeed in what they do.
What’s the toughest thing about your job?
Not always being able to say yes.
What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
As a newly qualified solicitor, being unprepared for a client to receive a custodial sentence; and how to move everything to then get him out on appeal within 24 hours.
What car(s) do you drive?
Anything into which I can fit my windsurfing kit.

Desiring God: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist by John Piper.

Matchbox Twenty’s More Than You Think You Are – nothing else gets a chance.

Herge’s Adventures of Tintin.
