Davis Polk & Wardwell has elected London-based partner Tom Reid to the firm’s three-member management committee.
It is the first time the New York giant has had a British partner on its most senior management board, signalling the increasing prominence within the firm of Europe and the City.
Reid was voted onto the committee last Friday (25 April) for a three-year term, replacing corporate department head Andres Gil in the role. He joins managing partner John Ettinger and litigation partner Carey Dunne, both of whom were reelected to the committee.
Reid played down the significance of his appointment but admitted it could serve to raise the profile of Davis Polk’s European practice externally.
“We already have a pronounced international focus,” said Reid. “My position on the management committee doesn’t say anything at all about a change in that strategy but it might raise the awareness, externally, of our focus on Europe.”
