McDermott partner quits for Orchard

McDermott Will & Emery has lost another London partner, following the decision of corporate specialist Richard Beresford to join niche city firm Orchard.

The departure comes three months after two intellectual property partners and three associates quit McDermott for Hammonds.
Beresford, who joins Orchard as an equity partner, was one of the original UK partners in the London office, which was launched in November 1998. Prior to his stint at McDermotts, he spent nine years at Gouldens.
His past clients include BAE Systems, Morgan Stanley and Piper Private Equity.
Managing partner of McDermott’s London office William Charnley said: “We’re sorry to see Richard go and wish him well in his new position.”
He added that the firm was continuing to recruit in the corporate department.
Beresford’s appointment takes Orchard’s number of lateral hires in the past year to nine.
